Meet our Coaches

Meet our amazing team of coaches.

Ribal Abou-Haidar

Ribal, aka Legend, is FLYRS Alumni who initially returned to the team as an assistant coach in 2023 but has now stepped into the role of head coach. While the highly competitive nature of the sport is what initially drew Ribal to rowing, it was the FLYRS culture, previously established by Nadine Mross, that cemented a lifelong appreciation for it. As head coach, he aims to keep training rigorous and effective, but most importantly, in line with the FLYRS ethos in that it must be fun and done with integrity.

Sydney Wick

Sydney rowed with the FLYRS from 2015 to 2020, which led her to race at Canada Cup, and for Team BC. She then continued her rowing career at Washington State University, where she competed for four years at the Division I level. She is now back at FLYRS as an assistant coach, where she hopes to provide athletes with the same support and guidance she received from the team when she was in high school. The FLYRS community has changed Sydney's outlook on athletics and competition, and cultivated her deep-rooted love of rowing.

Caitlyn Santos

Caitlyn is also FLYRS Alumni who returned to the team as an Assistant Coach in 2023.

Recognizing Nadine Mross

Coach of FLYRS 2011-2025

Nadine was head coach of the FLYRS from 2011-2025. Having competed competitively in the sport previously, she brought knowledge and enthusiasm to push our rowers to the next level. Nadine was the foundation for this amazing rowing club - she brought a positive attitude and competitive spirit that touched so many young rowers. As she steps aside now to have a family of her own, she leaves many families touched by all that she put into the club over the years. Dedication, love and kindness in everything she did. Recognized as BC Coach of the Year AND RCA CANADA Coach of the Year 2024 right as she steps back, gives her the recognition she deserves. Thank you Nadine.
